Located in the eastern-most part of Encinitas, Olivenhain is a neighborhood within the city of Encinitas.  

The community of Olivenhain is comprised of primarily single family custom homes, and most with relatively large lots of 1/2 acre or more.  With its rolling hills, Olivenhain has a great network of recreational trails used by hikers, bikers and equestrians.  The area has a very rural feel and even has an active 4-H club.  It is also a “dark sky community” - very little light pollution at night and great star-gazing!

Where does the name “Olivenhain” come from?  Originally settled by a German colony in the 1890’s its name is German for “olive grove”.  The original settlers built the still-existing meeting hall which is used for community functions and is a popular site for weddings.  Annual activities such as the Oktoberfest, Haunted House, summer movie series and various craft fairs are well-attended by the community of this city-within-a-city.

Olivenhain is located within the Encinitas Union School District and the San Dieguito Union High School District.
